How To Diet On A Budget
Defined Tag: Diet On A Budget. When money is tight, but you still want to lose some weight and eat a balanced diet, you may feel that the task is simply not possible. As a culture, we have been brainwashed into thinking that in order to eat right, it is necessary to spend a lot of money. That simply is not true. Here are some ideas of how you can diet on a budget and still eat very well. One of the first tricks to learn is that you probably have a lot of things that need to be cut from your diet. Depending on your health situation, this may mean eliminated such cheap foods as canned corn or frozen pizza. Yes, they are cheap, but they also can be health risks for some people and are certainly no friend to anyone trying to lose weight. Make a list of these now forbidden foods and then figure out how much you spend on them each month. You may be astonished to find that these items are eating up more your food budget than you thought. Next, recognize that fresh vegetables often go further than canned or frozen varieties. They are also healthier in many cases. Try hitting your local farmer's market late in the week, and shortly before closing. You will find that when produce has set for a day or two and will soon be replaced with fresh items, the vendor is willing to cut you a deal. Take the vegetables home and go ahead and cook them that same day. You can easily divide them up into single servings and freeze many of them. Not only will your body get more vitamins and nutrients, you will save a lot of money. Last, plant a garden. It doesn't matter if you live in the city or if you have no area to plant a traditional garden. Get some flower pots and grow your own tomato and bell pepper plants, as well as other small food yielding plants. The pots can be obtained from thrift shops, and a quick trip to the country will find a farmer or two that is willing to give you some dirt that is already rich in minerals. If you talk nice, he may even give you some seeds from his crop the past year to get your started. Position the pots near a window so they get sunlight and remember to water them as needed. You will soon find yourself with more vegetables than you can handle. Give or sell what you don't need or can't freeze for later use. In no time, you will find that your diet on a budget is not so hard to accomplish after all.
